Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand ’s magnum opus. It is the culmination of her quest to portray an ideal man, and the first full expression of her mature philosophy of Objectivism. It’s theme is the role of the mind in man’s life, it’s plot follows the struggles of the America’s industrial titans to keep their businesses alive when the whole economy is dying. In it, Rand unites metaphysics and sex, theory and practice, economics and art in an intellectual tour de force. One of the most influential books of the 20th century, its inspirational power has kept it a bestseller in the 21st century as well.

Atlas Shrugged stands out, too, because it is a wonderful read. In its pages you will find a mystery: who is ‘the destroyer’ who is tearing civilization down? You will find thrilling romance. You will find science fiction. You will find social satire. You will find a disturbing portrait of an America gone wrong; it could be a prescient warning of days to come. And you will discover heroes like Dagny Taggart, the railroad executive who is the first epic heroine of the modern age, and Hank Rearden, the entrepreneur who is morally tortured for being inventive and productive. It’s the story of the rebirth of the idea of America as the land of individual liberty.
