Energy is central to Atlas Shrugged. Ayn Rand also chronicled how the 1970s energy crisis was at root philosophical: altruism-collectivism reigned over self-interested capitalism in the Nixon, Ford, and Carter presidencies.

Today, we see the triumph of energy plenty despite federal efforts to ration natural gas, coal, and oil. Rand, as well as the late resource economist Julian Simon, would have been pleasantly surprised at how free minds overcame impediments to make the U.S., once again, the energy capital of the world.
